“Music is part of my D.N.A.” Formally trained in four instruments by age 12, Joe Markko picked up a guitar at 13 and immediately made it his instrument of choice.
Though performing with “combos,” School-orchestras and Marching Bands as a pre-teen, his earliest recordings date back to a 1964 session at Chess Records in Chicago with Blues/Rock band, the Treez. Their single, “You Lied to me Before,” was released by Harlequin Records and enjoyed significant airplay on Chicago radio stations.
Drummer and fellow band-member, Val Fuentes, moved to California to become a foundation member of It’s A Beautiful Day and New Riders of the Purple Sage, while Joe moved to Ohio to make a different kind of wave.
Widely recognized as one of the earliest Pioneers in what’s since become known as Contemporary Christian Music, Joe co-founded the now “legendary” group, the All Saved Freak Band. With lead-guitarist, Glenn Schwartz, formerly of the James Gang and Pacific, Gas and Electric, Joe and fellow band members recorded 4 albums now recognized as “Classics” in that genre.
Joe continues to write and record under the name of Home Before Midnight. Releasing two albums of original music with the group. “Just Passing Through” is both available from all online sources. http://www.HomeBeforeMidnight.com
