Between 2000 and 2004, I wrote and recorded an album called The Troubled Planet Project. It was created during a period of rapid change, not only in the world around me but in the technology available to an independent musician.
Using the digital tools of that era, I set out to build something ambitious: an album in which music and lyrics would be equally interesting, challenging and emotionally alive. Wanting to create a concept album — one work in ten “movements” — there is an intentional similarity, a purposeful cohesion in arrangement and sound throughout the project. Though individual songs should certainly stand on their own, the project is designed to be listened to in its entirety as one work.
Taking four years to write and record, every track was complete — drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, orchestration, vocals — everything but a few repairs and the final mix and master. Then the recordings were lost to a catastrophic system failure. Only a CD demo of the project remained,
For twenty-two years, the project existed only as a memory—an unfinished conversation with a troubled world. But A.I. arrived with tools that could not have been imagined when the album was first recorded making it possible to retrieve the performances, repair the damaged material and return to the project with fresh ears.
Now, after more than two decades, the 150+ original tracks recorded for The Troubled Planet Project have finally been recovered, remixed and remastered using A.I. technologies.
After twenty-two years in the shadows, this lost album has found its way home. I invite you to listen, not merely to the words, but to the landscapes surrounding them—the rhythms, textures, voices and musical surprises created to make the journey as compelling as the message.
Welcome to The Troubled Planet Project.
